Hello I'm curious to learn about making seed starting soil mix myself. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks you

Replies:

For a basic seed-starting mix I usually do roughly 2 parts coco peat, 1 part screened compost, and 1 part perlite.

Some folks do peat moss instead of coco peat.

I've recently swapped the perlite for sand since it's abundant where I am in the desert. Makes for a heavier mix but it seems to be working well for me so far, still testing

Hi Alonso, I use 3 parts coco coir to 1 part perlite or vermiculite, whichever I have on hand. The vermiculite or perlite helps retain moisture. I like vermiculite best as it seems to do a better job, but it's not a big difference so I don't worry about it too much.
