Hello from Goshen, Indiana

Hi - I'm a not-retired woman of retirement age, working as a bookseller in an indie bookstore, with a larger-than-I'd-like lot that I'm trying to coax into submission. Working on increasing my perennials and currently involved in smothering (black plastic) a large patch outside my back door to make a sitting area and garden. Also on a continual battle against weed trees and thistles.

Glad to join this community!

Hey there, welcome in!

Is the patch you're working on at the bookstore, or at home? Was thinking it would be fun to buy a book and then sit out in a nice garden and read! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

What kind of seating were you thinking? I'm trying to figure something out for our community garden seating and am looking for ideas ๐Ÿค”

Oh, a garden to read in would be superb! Unfortunately, the bookstore is located right downtown and no space for a garden around. We do have lots of comfy seating inside though :)

I'm working on a garden & seating in my back yard. I already have a pair of chairs and a small table but it will take some work to get the space ready. Leveling, patio block, etc., etc. And then setting up raised beds. Whew :P I'm attaching a plan I made and hopefully it will all come together!

For community garden seating, I would envision some benches close enough for conversation, and also some smaller places set apart for those who just want to enjoy some solitude!

Ooh I like the way it wraps around a pond, I'll bet the wildlife will love that! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ We just put out a bird bath and even that has been a big boost for birds and toads, especially in the heat.

It looks like it'll be a great space to spend time ๐Ÿ˜Š what kind of things are you going to plant when it's all finished? I'd love to see how it comes together!

I have two bird baths in my front yard, and each one has a solar fountain which I LOVE. I can see them from my front window and love watching the birds enjoy splashing about ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›๐Ÿ’ฆ
