If you're on a budget, consider using any random plastic container you have on hand - yogurt containers, milk jugs (cut off top half), vinegar jugs, takeout containers, plastic tubs or totes, whatever you have on hand.
Aim for something that will hold water, and which you can poke or drill drainage holes into the bottom of.
Soil & Nutrients
You should aim to spend the bulk of your budget on soil and nutrients.
Soil is the most critical component needed for plants to grow healthy, and if you get one thing right let it be this.
Seeds or Starter Plants
Starter plants are a quick and easy way to get started if they're within your budget and available to you from a local nursery.
Seed packets are much less exponsive and give you the added enjoyment and experience af raising your plants all the way from seed to harvest - but require mor work and time that buying plant starts.
Many gardeners go with a combination, grabbing some seed packets as well as a few ready-grown starts from the nursery to get going quickly and easily.
